Things that make me want to bang my head…

Have any of you ever noticed how a number of religious bloggers use the phrase core/key tenant when trying to express an important or fundamental aspect of their faith?

However, these same people never divulge the identity of this key tenant and I was wondering if any religiously inclined individuals who may be following along could please end my frustration and tell me who these tenants are?

As a bonus it would be interesting to know how much rent these tenants pay.

      1. Impediments are not immune to the tithe. I pay my tithes in Iranian rials. It’s perfect for religious donations. Looks really grand but nearly worthless.

    What is known about Yeshua bar Yosef (Jesus) if found NOT in the Synoptic Greco-Roman Gospels, but instead in all the extant, Jewish sources of his rural ascetic sect outside of Jerusalem via the Dead Sea Scrolls, Tannaim, and vague distorted indirect HINTS (inferences) from Saul of Tarsus’ letters/epistles.

    Or are you referring to the purely Hellenistic Greco-Roman Jesus of the 2nd — 4th century Early Church Fathers that later became the Roman Catholic Church? Can you be more specific please? 😉

      1. Hahaha! See… depending on WHO you ask you will still get a wide variety of answers. You’ll never obtain a clear, concise, unanimous answer to your question(s). That’s the problem. But…

        I think, in my humble opinion, there’s only ONE initial first question an unbias person needs to ask…

        #1 — Was 1st-century CE Jesus/Yeshua bar Yosef Jewish?

        Once that is established without any controversy, the logical next question is…

        #2 — Of what 1st-century Jewish Sect was Yeshua bar Yosef (Jesus) raised and taught?

        And then your off! There will be no reason whatsoever to start with the Greco-Roman Synoptic Gospels because you cannot find any of his TRUE viable tenets there. You must go to all Late Second Temple Jewish sources, period. And those sources are NOT in Koine Greek as the Septuagint is written, BUT in Yeshua’s (Jesus’) native, most spoken languages of 1) Mishnaic Hebrew, and 2) Syro-Aramaic… BOTH Semitic languages that DO NOT EASILY translate into Koine Greek or any other later dialect of Greek!

        See my point? 😁

          1. Hmm, okay. This is why I asked for more specific details. Let me backup. Maybe I’m confused Ark and if so I apologize.

            So… all these religious bloggers reference tenets of their faith, or tenants, as in residents paying to live on property? I assumed since you mentioned religious bloggers and their faiths… the correct spelling would be “tenets,” not tenant. Was I wrong?

            And even if they mistakenly used “tenant”—living inside their hearts, souls?—I assumed it meant Jesus Christ their Lord/Savior. Do I need a lot more clarity Ark? Tenets of Faith come from theological doctrines which come from Scriptures of the Greco-Roman Jesus. Tenants of Faith I’m not sure I understand what those Christian bloggers are referencing. Can you elaborate more? 🙂

            I have not had my Black Silk Brazilian coffee yet so I may not be fully conscious either. LOL

  3. I’m surprised you are still asking this question, given they’ve already disclosed that their key tenant is a genocidal dictator who lives rent-free inside their heads.

        1. Oh, of that I have no doubt! And we can be similarly assured that a lot of what we currently consider history was ”written in”.
          Much of the historical claims of veracity regarding religion are highly suspect.
          For example, and I realise I may sound just a teensy-weensy bit paranoid, but I’m beginning to have my doubts about how real Adam and Eve were. And Noah and the Flood are also causing me to raise an eyebrow of concern every now and then when the topic arises.
          I don’t know … before long someone will be telling me Harry Potter is not real.

  5. I’m not sure which religious bloggers you refer to. In any case, I don’t spend my time reading much of that stuff. I do not need to add reasons to bang my head.

    The definition of the phrase “key tenant” I read is “a principle, belief, or doctrine generally held to be true especially : one held in common by members of an organization, movement, or profession.” In my case (Catholic), I always considered The Apostle’s Creed (or profession of faith) to be that.

    However, this was easy to find. “The chief teachings of the Catholic church are: God’s objective existence; God’s interest in individual human beings, who can enter into relations with God (through prayer); the Trinity; the divinity of Jesus; the immortality of the soul of each human being, each one being accountable at death for his or her actions in life, with the award of heaven or hell; the resurrection of the dead; the historicity of the Gospels; and the divine commission of the church. In addition the Roman Catholic Church stresses that since the members, living and dead, share in each other’s merits, the Virgin Mary and other saints and the dead in purgatory are never forgotten.”

    For Jim, when I was a practicing RC in a large parish, I was a top donor at 8%, while the average RC pony’s up about 3%. We rarely used the word “tithe.”

      1. I bought some glasses frames from China a few months ago and it was hilarious chatting to the guy or girl there on the other end. The translator they were using was atrocious and if you didn’t know better you’d think they were picking a fight with you.
