Birds bits n’ Bobs

Topping Jacarandas on Ridge Road on a chilly winter morning

Wood Chipper. Just what I need for all the chopped wood at our spot. I forgot to ask these blokes if the council hired this machine out.

Max has been quite poorly this past week. She may have Merek’s disease but with a little bit of therapy she has begun to respond. I have been warned that shouting ”KFC!” at her does not help.

”Put your left leg in put your left leg out…”

Egyptian Goose doing the Hokey Cokey on the neighbour’s roof.

Homemade Tobasco Sauce.

From the tears overflowing from my son I consider we have a winner!

Female White Bellied Sunbird.

Female Amethyst Sunbird

Some of our lettuce. These are from self- seeded stock that I transplanted a while back . I’m surprised they haven’t bolted already.

Hiding in plain sight.

Taters in Boxes.

Saw this method on the Youtubes and while I’m fortunate to have plenty of open dirt to plant me taters I thought I’d give this variation of the no-dig method a go.

The premise being the bottom of the box is folded in and the potatoes rest on the open dirt, or other medium (compost , leaves, straw etc. ) Medium is added as they grow. When they are ready to harvest one simply lifts the box and picks up the spuds. I presume the soil is raked over.

Watch this space.

And finally, for Nan, bless her cotton socks!

Young Rain Spider discovered two days ago among the Jasmin on the shed.

This rather fetching young lady is around half the size of  my thumb.

  1. Arky, I had NO IDEA, not even a hint, that you’d torture your own son with your nuclear hazard homemade Tabasco Sauce!!! 😲 (in his best Herbert Morrison impersonation…)

Oh no! [He] has burst into flames! This is terrible! This is one of the worst catastrophes in the Arkesatan kitchen! Oh, the terrific smoke and flames [coming from his face!] OH THE HUMANITY!

Ark, my impression of you now?

    Hasn’t changed one bit. 😉

    1. Adrian is the go- to guy when it comes to such culinary experimentation.
If he begins to sweat buckets and appears to melt then I am fairly confident I have done a good job.

  2. Having our trees pruned, too. They did a boab tree just up in the park and I got a shitload of cuttings which, if I’m lucky, will take root, and I can shape into some more bonsais.

  3. On a footballing note and off subject—sorry Ark; can’t resist—what a summer signing by your boys and Klopp! Darwin Nunez!? 😮 The boy I was so impressed by when Liverpool met Benfica in UEFA Chmps League? Oh my my Doug. Your Reds are stacked to the hilt now. WOWZA! 👏🏻

    1. We were all a bit disappointed to lose Sadio especially as he’s gone to my godson’s side…. Gnash, gnash…

As for the Gunners, I see you have finally managed to get Jesus in your side!
      Divine provinence?
Who knew God was an Arsenal fan, eh?
      SMH.

      1. Hahaha. 😄 Gabriel Jesus is a decent/good signing, sure. But he wasn’t that huge an impact for City and I don’t have any optimism he’ll make a phenomenal impact with my Gunners. It makes sense for the other Brasilians on the squad—the comradery and all—but from a marquee player-signing standpoint… eh. 😒 We’ll see.

        1. I am just a bit surprised they didn’t also sign Moses.
I know he’s pushing it a bit age wise, but come on,Jesus and Moses on the same side!
Holey Moley how could the Arsenal lose?

          1. Hah! I don’t think Arsenal has the clout anymore—like a Chelsea, Man City, L’pool, Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern Munchen, Juventus(?), maybe Barcelona—the wealthiest top-tier clubs today to sign MULTIPLE marquee players. In the elite transfer market the Gunners are definitely a mid 2nd- or high 3rd-tier football club financially since Stan and Kroenke Sports & Entertainment took over.

But HEY! At least we have a gorgeous brand-new top-of-the-line Emirates Stadium… for the next 3-5 years… when all the other clubs out do Kroenke, again. 🙄

        1. You are a Christian apologist, or , this is how the post reads.
Such a position is almost quintiessianly dishonest.

I might be interested if you were to offer a truthful explanation about why you are a Christian.
Otherwise, it’s just a case of …yawn… same old, same old.

And why,if you are trying to convey honesty and integrity cite from Peter, a fraudulant text?

          1. 1st, I’m not an apologist. Kind of what I was getting at in the post. 🙂 and I’m a Christian because I believed the Gospel. Simple. And Peter? Yes, it has been labeled as pseudopigrapha. However, I still hear His voice, flawed as the letter may be. 🙂 thx again

          2. It’s delusion, because it is not based on facts.

If religion were true there’d be no need for faith. Faith is religions (necessitated) self-defence mechanism and without it belief would simply crumble under the fallacy of its unsubstantiated claims. Religion knows this and that is why faith is promoted as a virtue whereby the faithful are rewarded for enduring what is called, “tests of faith.” That is to say, the faithful are encouraged to remain ignorant, for without ignorance belief would be impossible. Faith and evidentialism cannot coexist. If something can be believed based on evidence it cannot also be believed on faith, and yet faith is the cornerstone of all religion belief. They are antithetical. The minute evidence appears faith is cast aside in favour of evidence. Belief based on evidence is rational; it follows from the evidence and is justified by it. Conversely, belief without evidence (faith) is irrational and cannot be legitimised by reasonable human beings.

          3. If you are justifying your belief then you are apologising.
Of you believe the gospels then you are indoctrinated.
If you accept a fraudulant text then you will accept anything and simply come across as a credulous fool.

          4. Not really justifying my Faith or Apologizing in the post. I wonder, did you read it? Of course you did. That part about Peter… Either way, if you did thank you. I appreciate your feedback

          5. Again, why are you interested in my opinion?
Of course you are justifying your faith.
As John pointed out,if you had evidence, any evidence at all, you would not need faith.
Out of interest, were you indoctrinated as a child or did you convert as a teen/adult?
If so, what were the emotional issues that led to your conversion?

  4. You’ve been extremely busy by the looks of it. Sorry to hear about Max. I hope she improves. The tater-growing should be interesting. Not heard of doing it like that before. All I know, is as long as taters have a good couple of feet of unencumbered healthy dirt beneath them, they’ll do just fine. Been a while since I grew any though.
