Bits n’ Bobs

Garden Commodore photographed this afternoon. Nice to see them back again.

My garden experiment. In an attempt to do away with seed trays I am having a go at planting in old toilet rolls. Add a little potting mix, sow the seed, gently pressing it into potting mix and cover lightly. Bio-degradable so there’s no need to remove seedling to transplant. Simply wait ’til it sprouts … like so, make a hole in the soil and pop it in.

This is a Butternut Squash and because it is a ‘sprawler I planted in one of the compost bins that is currently waiting to break down.

Around the time the compost is ‘done’ my squash should be ready to harvest.

I’m also using this method to start tomatoes and several have also germinated this week.

It’s going to be interesting to see the results.

Adorabelle among a patch of lavender.

Naked Cake, with fresh fruit and roses. Went out this week.

Emily’s Cakes

Solanum Rantonnetii or blue potato bush

More seedlings.

Someone turned eight yesterday. Where does the time go?

Made to the birthday girl’s specifications!

Ark.

  1. I know this is going to sound weird, but at first glance, that squash sprout looked like a small bird perched on the edge of the roll. The white was its head, the round green its body, and the part that’s in the soil was it’s tail feather.

I know. Like I said … weird. I think maybe all your bird photos have gotten to me … !! 🥺

    1. Gracias! I wish I could claim originality, but I borrowed this from someone on YouTube. Good ideas are worth sharing no matter where they come from.
