The Warped Mind Of Pastor David Robertson

Part of his latest post/podcast is about group identity. Robertson asserts that many kids are now being indoctrinated into some sort of middle-class progressive woke liberalism. Maybe they are?

However, what does he do to make his point? Post a video of Gary Glitter, singing ”My gang”. Glitter is a pedophile jailed for 16 years.

Robertson feels fully justified posting the video ( even stating ”YOu clearly did not listen to the podcast,”) but also felt he needed to qualify it.

He says:

”Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that everyone who belongs to this gang is a pedophile. But I am saying this. That these people are going to enable continual abuse and evil. It’s just wrong. I want to follow Jesus and I want to have a mind of my own.”

Aside from the obvious ”Jesus/mind of my own” oxymoron in that sentence, if he isn’t saying everyone who belongs to this gang is a pedophile, just how many does he think are pedophiles?

And if in fact he doen’t think any are pedophiles – as such a spurious and potentially libelous remark could have serious consequences – why on earth did he post the video and make such a pathetic and disgusting comparison?

Oh, and he closes this podcast with a few words about guns and hunting by flippantly stating he finds nothing wrong with hunting animals for sport.

Charming!

This man becomes more revolting with every post.

Ark.

      1. After hearing his view on hunting for sport, I asked if he had ever seen a canned lion hunt, and also mentioned the image of the butchered rhino that won the WWF photograph of the year award a while back.

What are the odds that comment will ever see the light of day?

I can’t see how he managed to get a job in Australia.
Surely Oz isn’t that hard up for Pastors they need someone as low calibre as him?

    1. Yes, exactly.
And he could have found another piece of music or artist to demonstrate his point without any need to introduce pedophilia, which brings into question his motive for posting in the first place.

      1. Ya gotta ‘know your enemy’; they told us back in military school.

And yes, it is a war. The forces of rational light against the darkness of cloistered ignorance.

  1. Following Jesus and having a mind of one’s own is not exactly an “oxymoron”. After all, Jesus said, ““Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?” [Luke 12:57]

I don’t bother with David Robertson’s podcasts. I express disagreement with things he has said more-or-less as often as I express disagreement. But it ought to be clear to you by now that he’s probably not going to engage with a post on your blog that insults him by name in the title. I learned quickly what a thankless task that was when you insulted me along with him. What do you hope to achieve with this style of citizen journalism?

Not having listened to the podcast, You quote David, as having written, “I’m not saying that everyone who belongs to this gang is a pedophile.” You reply (though David probably won’t see your reply), “And if in fact he doesn’t think any are pedophiles – as such a spurious and potentially libelous remark could have serious consequences – why on earth did he post the video and make such a pathetic and disgusting comparison?” As I read this, I wonder what “gang” David is talking about, and who you mean by “they”. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if any of your more regular and better-liked readers and contributors exhibits and understanding of whom it is that David was, and you have been, talking about.

Except that religion is generally inculcated at a young age and specific bible verses like this rarely come to the attention let alone understanding of most indoctrinated Christians thus the word oxymoron is right on the money, as those that exercise genuine critical thought and recognise they have been indoctrinated into Christianity invariably walk away and deconvert.

I never expect Robertson to engage me here.
I do posts on what he writes specifically because he refuses to genuinely engage with me on his blog, and the comments he allows through are those that either do not challenge or those he can pour his usual brand of condescension upon without allowing any further comment.
He does this to several visitors to his blog, by the way, even fellow Christians who have the temerity to call him out.

What do you hope to achieve with this style of citizen journalism?
I call it as I see it.

What he peddles, in general I find revolting, and much of what he posts is at best ignorant and hypocritical and at worst disingenuous and on occasion outright lies.

Furthermore, I write about that which interests me. Religion interests me.
Enough people writing about how revolting religion is exposes the overwhelming ignorance of most of its adherrants and the less than savoury dealings of many/most of its proponents.

As to the pedophile reference, the comparison was drawn in the opening few sentences of this post.
If you did not understand it then maybe you should listen to the podcast? It might help?

And if any of his visitors did not listen to the podcast and merely saw the Gary Glitter video they too might be as confused – and equally disgusted.

And his flippant I-don’t-see- anything-wrong-with-hunting-for-sport remark is equally as disgusting, and irresponsible, especially as this includes fox hunting which, considering he often vilifies those with privilage who are in the main the ones involved with this practice demonstrates just how much of an ignorant bloody Arsehat Robertson is.

    2. I lifted this from part of a comment you left on Robertson’s blog.
He spoke of humility, but practices defiance in the face of God,

What defiance could a not-really-a -Christian possibly display?

As you have stated to be in disagreement with Robertson more often than not this comment (above) seems to fly in the face of this disagreement and I wonder why you bothered to leave it in the first place?

Oh, and as you include the capital G which god are you referring to? Do you have a name?

    1. What I find amusing and baffling at the same time is he regulalry writes about the demise of the church and the rise of secularism, of which he lays the blame for so many of societys’ ills, and yet in terms of addressing these isues in a practical way he does bugger all except rant on as many platforms of social media as he can subscribe to!
He left Scotland, ostensibly to further the cause of evangelism, and moved to Australia.
But if his blog is anything to go by nothing of any note has changed.

If he is truly representive of the European evangelical christian then I look forward to the early demise of this branch of the church with consumate glee!
