We struggled for a few years, and have now found the perfect window and a shelf to put all our orchids in a row. They go bananas… 🙂

IT took Celeste a long time as well. But like you, she has found the perfect home for them, and now they have first right of ‘residence’ and woe-betide anyone that moves them!

Haha! Orchids are amazing creatures. It really is a matter of the right amount, angle of light. Left window is good, right window isn’t.

Woah! I love, times-10 to the tenth, orchids Ark! Your wife must be genius and a Master Specialist because as I’m sure you both know, they are NOT easy to grow, maintain, or propagate. It takes serious savvy, patience, and regular love & maintenance. I’m VERY impressed! So I take it that Johannesburg’s climate is pretty ideal for them?

The only thing I know about orchids is that I don’t have the patience or the climate (indoors OR out) for them. But these are rare and stunning.

Plants, like house pets, have preferences. I could never grow the plants my mother in law did, we were totally different temperaments. My mother’s plants do fine. Better with me, than with her, actually. =)

Yesterday was snow and sleet and hail. This morning we had some hail, and most of the day was cool and breezy and sunny. When sunny the sun was quite hot. (You know … I really don’t think your orchids would stand a chance.)
Gorgeous blooms though—all we have so far is forget-me-nots. Early days yet.

However, it does get very nippy over here around the middle of the year and the ones outside seem to weather the cold okay.

Lovely flowers, I knew someone many years ago who made quite a bit of money in their spare time showing and selling orchids, I know that he nurtured them like babies and emphasised how difficult it was to get them to a high standard.
