Needle Nose Fly   (Philoliche aethiopica)

This a pollinating fly with a long proboscis – hence the name. I cannot find any extensive info on it.

Though from watching it on this patch of daisies for about 10 minutes I can state that it definitely has a preference for moving around the flower head in a clockwise manner. A piece of invaluable entomological observational evidence, I’m sure.

    • The northern species have shorter legs on the port side, (much like certain Alpine mountain goats. Stops them falling off the mountain apparently. But it gets tricky if they turn round suddenly) so they probably do. ( go counter-clockwise)
