The Rameron Pigeon or the African Olive Pigeon as it is also known is generally considered a coastal dweller of Eastern and Southern Africa.
But here we have one 1700 metres above sea level in Johannesburg!
Well, they have a penchant for the fruit of the invasive bugweed plant of which we have a few at our spot. No that they fly all the way from Durban and environs just to eat their fill at the Ark’s spot! No. Obviously not.
But as the bugweed has spread inland so the Rameron Pigeon has followed one of ts favorite fruits.
Only the third time I have ever seen the bird and just the second time I have managed to get a photograph.
Handsome feller isn’t he?
