A close encounter …

Not a very good shot, I am afraid. I must confess I had the camera on the wrong setting and was so engrossed in the potential drama being played out I completely  forgot to change to the Macro setting. (Who’s a clever boy, then? )

Nevertheless, one does not need to be  David Attenborough to realise what might be about to transpire!

And it is worth remembering that, the Thyreus Bee is actually resting. Whether“parked off”’ can be translated to fast asleep, I have no idea, and I suspect the crab spider couldn’t care either way.

In fact, now I come to think of it, as crab spiders are ambush hunters rather than stalkers, preferring to let the prey come to them and then pounce, I am not even sure if the spider is actually after the bee or she may have simply wandered up the wrong flower stem.

Was fascinating to watch for a few minutes, nonetheless.

Oh, and in case you were wondering about the outcome …

Here we go …
